The Honourable the Colonial Secretary,

Hong Kong.

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt

of your letter No.174, dated the 31st January, 1899,

enquiring whether the Government of India are prepared to

quote a tariff of sliding rates for the execution at the

Calcutta Mint of silver coinage for the Hong Kong Government

varying in amount from one million dollars worth to

four million dollars worth.

2. In reply I am to say that following the

practice of the Royal Mint the Government of India propose

to make a uniform charge of Rupees 5/8/- per 1000 pieces,

irrespective of the quantity per annum and the denomination

of the coin.
